Main Focus:

Scene Work & Filming

During this workshop, you will work intensively for four days on a scene with a scene partner, under the guidance of Cielke Bessemans, using the Chubbuck technique.

On Day 6, the scene will be filmed on our professionally equipped film set, using professional filming equipment. Day 5 is a rehearsal day on the set for participants to practice. On Day 7 (Sunday, one week later), the filmed scenes are reviewed and discussed together.

The final result is a polished scene that you can use for your showreel. During the filming day, you will also receive a hands-on introduction to how a professional film set operates.

In addition to scene work, you will receive training in:

  • Being present in the moment and responding to impulses (Meisner technique)
  • Imagination and character development
  • Pushing physical and mental boundaries

These exercises are designed to deepen your performance and strengthen your acting instrument.

Preparation

A few weeks before the workshop begins, you will be assigned a script (approximately 3 pages) from an existing film. You may perform your scene in English or Dutch, depending on your preference.

The script must be fully memorized by the first class—without emotional interpretation, intonation, or performance.

You will also read the entire film script (in English), so a good understanding of English is required.
